Who hasn’t heard about organic foods by now? But understanding how it relates to global warming is less understood by most of us.

The benefits of organic agriculture are immense. They prohibit the use of synthetic chemicals used in farming, keeping poisons out of our food.

Another benefit closer to our focus of concern is that synthetic farm chemicals are petroleum based, so organic farming contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and gets us closer to weening ourselves off of them.

However, the livestock we derive organic beef and dairy products from have basically the same Methane GHG emission problem that their conventionally raised brethren and sisters do and they still add to the global warming problem as a result.

But if you can afford it, we heartily support an organic diet that does not include beef and dairy products. The health benefits are enormous because organic practices eliminate the use of so many carcinogens in our food chain.

Additionally, organic farmers are always looking to improve the health of soils in their fields, which among other additional benefits can potentially make those fields into Carbon Sinks.
