Agriculture and Green House Gas (GHG)
9% of all Green House Gases comes from Agriculture and only a third of it, or 3% of all GHG’s, comes from livestock, mostly from cows. That seems insignificant until you examine further and discover that the particular gas emitted by livestock is Methane whose particles have 20 times the global heating effect of the more prevalent one, CO2. So while less in volume Methane emitted by livestock accounts for 18% of total GHG impact on global warming.
One of the other lesser Methane emitters comes from the waste of other farm animals like chickens. But even that Methane can be eliminated by Biochar systems that can burn up the methane in the waste and turn it into Biochar fertilizer that’s much better for the environment. Fertilizing fields also helps create Carbon Sinks and essential requirement in our efforts to stop global warming.
