Regenerative Agriculture
Before modern farming or even farming in general the Earth’s soils were carbon sponges.
When humankind began plowing the Earth to plant crops we began releasing a lot of carbon trapped by soil into the atmosphere where it joins with oxygen to make the GHG, Carbon Dioxide. Continuous working of the land in this way has also degraded much of the ability that land above sea level has to sequester (capture) Carbon from the atmosphere.
Regenerative Agriculture attempts to reverse this affect while still practicing traditional livestock/crop farming.
While there’s a lot that goes into Regenerative Agriculture, it’s basic benefit is to enhance soil on farms so that it once again captures carbon rather than releasing it.
But perhaps the best hope it offers is that it requires ruminants to make it work. So if you really don’t want to give up your milk and cookies look for milk and milk products produced from a farm practicing Regenerative Agriculture.
